Kingsbridge is well worth a visit and here you will find the local supermarkets – Morrisons and Tesco. Kingsbridge is an ancient market town with many unique shops.
Salcombe can be explored after a strenuous two-hour walk from the cottage along the South West Coastal Path. Alternatively, a Park & Ride scheme operates during the busy summer season.
If you like towns, Totnes and Dartmouth are very picturesque and are about a forty-minute leisurely drive from Hope Cove.
The larger town of Plymouth is approximately an hour by car. Head to the historic Barbican area to check out the National Aquarium followed by a trip round the Plymouth Gin Factory!
Food and Drink
No holiday in the West Country would be complete without sampling our superb local food: be it eating out or purchasing locally and eating in.
Outer Hope has plenty options for eating out including The Cove beach front Café Bar which features local produce, craft beers and live music (thecovedevon.co.uk), the newly refurbished Hope & Anchor pub (hopeandanchor.co.uk) and the Lobster Pod bistro around the corner (lobster-pod.co.uk).
At nearby Aveton Gifford there is The Oyster Shack, (oystershack.co.uk) which serves fantastic sustainably sourced, local seafood. Booking is essential.
Alternatively, if you fancy a night out, visit Kingsbridge. Here you’ll find a superb Balti curry house who will also do home delivery to Hope Cove for a £3 delivery charge. The Maha-Bharat (mahabharatonline.co.uk) can be contacted on 01548 857072.

Kingsbridge also has a local farmers market, held on the first and third Saturday of every month between 9am-1pm on the quay at the town square, which features a wild range of fresh produce.
For fresh local crab and lobster from Hope Cove call Dave Morgan 01548 560237. Kingsbridge also has an excellent fishmongers Catch of the Day – call 01548 852006 for locally caught wet and smoked fish.
For wine and cheese tours visit Sharpham Vineyard (sharpham.com), which can be found nestled on the banks of the River Dart. Not only can you sample or buy their wine and cheese but you also enjoy walking around the estate with glorious views over the Dart Estuary.
